Nouadhibou is the principal port of Mauritania. It is situated on the Bay of Cansado, on the Eastern side of Cap Blanc Peninsula. The port is linked by road to the capital, Nouakchott and by rail to the iron ore mining areas of Zouerate, and Fort Derick. The port is able to accommodate vessels of up to 24m overall length. The marine civil engineering works included dredging and channel lining works. On shore works included ship repair facilities, infrastructure such as roads and drainage and support facilities such as refrigeration and ice making plant and buildings and market areas.
