Project Description


Project Brief:

The project concerns construction of two lines of Great Cairo Underground metro. In order to avoid the obstacles for construction caused by presence of buildings and infrastructure lines, the studies were carried out for infrastructure lines transfer, building demolishing and reinforcement of buildings situated in project influence zone. Also, traffic studies were performed.

Cairo Metro (Line Helwan – El Marg): First stage of this line was opened to the public in 1987 and it was fully completed in 1989 and consisting of 35 stations with a total length of 43 km of which 4.5 km are underground. The line can carry 60000 passengers per hour in each direction.
Cairo Metro Line 2 (Shoubra – Giza):  the total length of the line is 18 km, it is the first line to have a tunnel going under the Nile of 8.35 m in internal diameter and was constructed using two Herenknecht bentonite slurry shield TBMs.
