he Katunguru- Kasese -Fort Portal Road is of 108 kms length and forms a section of the Trans-African Highway linking Mombasa in Kenya to Lagos in Nigeria. The first 31 kms to Kasese the character of the road is almost flat, with gentle horizontal and vertical geometry for about 20 kms.
In this area, the pavement is badly deteriorated, As the road approaches Fort Portal it follows the contours and begins to cross them. From Port Fortal boundary the condition of the road is far worse. The Fort Portal-Bundibugyo Road is of 70 kms length. For the majority of its length, this road crosses mountainous terrain with steep slopes and difficult horizontal curves. There is a clear need for a total hydrological study and a comprehensive drainage design.
